I think that was exactly the problem.. Because Harry didn't get a chance to spend a lot of time with many girls, Ginny was probably the only choice that wouldn't be completely unbelievably.
And Yeah I totally get if they spend time together off the page, but Harry showed no indication whatsoever that he even noticed Ginny minus her being "Ron's little". Not even to the end of Ootp.
Hbp starts- where Harry is at the Dursleys. So he wouldn't get to spend any time together in the summer. Then he arrives at the Weasley's and out of the blue he has feelings.
