I sympathize with your violent reaction to it. It's one of those books where everyone seems to just be so in tune with it that I ended up feeling like I was stupid for failing to capture its essence. It was a real turn-off for me.
I thought the book was only OK rather than brilliant but I probably would not punch Neil Gaiman in the face if I met him.
Threats of violence against an artist because you do not like their creative output are never OK. Especially these days with what is going on in the world. I find this comment worrisome and completely unacceptable.
I'm writing a novel right now. I hope no one wants to punch me in the face after reading it.
