I don't think most read it for the BDSM. I read biker books, but I have no plans to become a club whore or an old lady. It's fiction not a how to manual.
Even though it's not a BDSM manual, I understand that someone who knows even just a little about BDSM and sees how FSoG missed the mark about it could be stunned that the author wrote about it in the first place. One must write about things we knows.
And yes, I agree with you, this is not why people read it. This is a very cliched story of Prince Charming and Cinderella falling in love together. Furthermore, this is very badly written.
I don't understand the craze either.
