What would you say if all of his characters were white, males and heterosexual?
I'd say "I hope they teach those murdering aliens a lesson!"
It's not the race (which I didn't mention, but whatever), gender, religion and sexual orientation of his characters that matters.
It's the tolerance of murdering aliens that I find problematic.
Compare Ender's Game with Starship Troopers. Jonny Rico is a Right Wing Character, Ender Wiggin is a Left Wing Character.
Juan "Jonny" Rico (a non-white Filipino) doesn't sympathize with bugs, he just kills them.
Rico doesn't negotiate with alien terrorists, Wiggin harbors them and tries to understand thier cultures.
Rico put his own people first. In a choice between a bug galaxy and a human galaxy, he chose humans.
Given the same choice Ender Wiggin advocates a two-state solution, where the bugs will continue to be a constant threat.
His actions place the entire human race at risk.
No, I rated both Game and Speaker three stars, they're not all that bad. I find Ender to be an unsympathetic character, who cares more about alien lives than human lives.
There are great left wing books and writers. Asimov and Clarke were socialists who advocated World Government, while Phillip K. Dick was a drug-addled paranoid hippy.
Chris is just dead wrong about OSC. OSC isn't a right winger or a psychopath. He's a moderate who opposed activist judges overturning the will of the people. (In both of our states, we voted to define marriage as between one man and one woman.)
People who keep accusing OSC of being right-winged have obviously not actually read any of this series.
Most of 'em just read some tweets and blog posts from the social justice crowd.
I wish I could force them to read a real right wing author like Tom Kratman so they'd know what they were talking about.
