ahh, well I understand that point of view. for my taste, ADWD is the worst, with long drawn out pointless narrative. truly a matter of taste, eh?!
Of course. I've heard from a number of people who like this book or A Storm of Swords best. And while I liked ASOS's action, it nearly lost me after the whole Red Wedding fiasco.
Personally, I love the Red Wedding. martin refuses to give in to expected plot resolutions. The Starks certainly seem cursed.
You loved it? Are you kidding me? The Starks were not only betrayed horridly, the Lannisters, Boltons and Freys - the three worst families in this series - came out winners. Had Tyrion died, that would have been it for me! ;)
yes, I loved it. Sometimes the bad guys have to win. Realpolitik, after all, is not about virtue vs. villainy, but about getting the result and defeating your opponent. Robb Stark was too nice for his own good, and realistically, it cost him his head.
I disagree. Walder Frey did what he did out of malice and pettiness, not realpolitik. Allied to Robb, he could have been the chief bannerman of the "King in the North", rather than just another ally to a failing Lannister regime. He also could have arranged a marriage between his family and Robb's heir as recompense for Robb breaking his promise. And Daenerys and Aegon are equally virtuous to the Starks, and they are both poised to retake Westeros from the Lannisters. What's going to happen to the Freys and Boltons then?
I also liked the Red Wedding. Martin doesn't reward stupidity, carelessness and general "Starkiness" with that scene. One of my favorites. As for "A Feast..." I agree. The book did seem drawn out and unnecessary long, especially the Greyjoy part, but I hate the whole subplot so I'm not the one to talk
