I'm with you. Dany's story had to be written to a standstill. He got his events so out of whack timewise Dany has to mark time until the Others are ready to invade the seven kingdoms. It's a big whoopsie, to my mind. But when you're writing a series stretching out over a decade, things like that will happen to you!
ADWD was basically putting everything into places for the next book. It was basically an entire books worth of timeline balancing....which isnt exactly fun to read.
