Renee E What Rand oversimplified — or perhaps just missed — was that Robin Hood wasn't taking what the rich had earned, what was theirs, he was RECLAIMING what the poor had earned and had been robbed of. That whole "rob from the rich, give to the poor" is an awful Disneyficated garble. Robin Hood was really a seeker of justice and fairness.

Her heroes really weren't that far off, ideologically, from Robin Hood.

Even if she didn't realize it.

Ken Lord of the Rings deserves top 5 status without question. It was written by a master linguist and has given new life to folklore, renewed interest in nature and criticism of industrialization/militarization, all while providing a rich setting full of dynamic characters. If you want to dispute that, then you'll have to dispute it being so often the template that aspiring authors use to base their work on.

In contrast, Rand's writing is bland, political invective shrouded in a thin film of fiction to serve as its freshness wrapper. Alas, the seal was broken ages ago, and what's inside is stale and expired.

Some readers still inexplicably swear by the poisonous fruit however, either in boggling appreciation of the veneer of fiction it presents, or in the free pass the political platform presents them for being assholes.

It's one thing to appreciate hard work and making your own way rather than accepting handouts. That I can certainly agree with and believe that the government should not be passing out free stuff to lazy people. However, it is equally narrow-minded as those accused to believe that everyone is an island and that we don't need to help each other out, or that all suffering is the direct result of laziness. I challenge you to try and abolish VA hospitals. I challenge you to abolish society, because social interaction is what suffers most from Rand's brand of selfish greed pandering.
