Saint Buite
Sainte Buite was an Irish monk who died in 521. He is said to have lived for many years in a monastery in Italy, and to have returned, by Divine admonition, to his native land, taking with him many copies of the Scriptures and numerous holy relics. He and his disciples first sailed for Britain, landing in Pictish territory, where he is said to have restored King Nechtan to life by his prayers. He was rewarded with the gift of the royal fort near Forfar in which the miracle was said to have taken place. St. Buite founded a monastery there, and remained for some time instructing the people of the country in the Christian faith. The place came to be known as Kirkbuddo.
