Aryk Isaac Killen is the main character and tragic Hero of the #DeadThings Series.
Aryk is described to be six foot tall with a “lean but effective frame”. His skin is described as olive and “vibrant”. Aryk appears no older that twenty five in appearance and his face is described to be “heart-stoppingly beautiful”. Aryk also has green eyes that are incandescent when he uses his hypnotic effect. Aryk fancies himself a modern dandy; his dress is generally a mix of common fashion from the 1800’s and contemporary fashion.
Aryk wouldn’t fall in the category of evil. His philosophy is that “dark deeds” are required for “balance”. Aryk often chastise other vampires who murder many humans or who are overtly cruel. Aryk claims that it could expose vampire as a real threat to human. Aryk is known for having a close relationship with humans; the first being his 3rd cousin, Betsey. 1800’sEdit
Aryk was born “Isaac Aryk Killen” on 1839 in Southampton, Virginia. Aryk is the child of a Slave owner, Jeremiah Killen and his house-slave, Angelique. Jeremiah’s wife Beulah died during child birth along with the infant. In the other room Angelique gave birth to Aryk. Jeremiah switches the babies because Aryk, whom was fair skinned with sea green eyes, was passable. Aryk grew up with his brother Jesse until his father died and he was sired by the vampire Aria Barlow in 1859.
1900’sEdit
In 1900’s, Aryk has now taken on the persona as Angelus Mortis, The Angel of Death. Aryk only seeks out human’s who suffer from depression and wishes for death. One of those humans was Cecil Du lac Aryk murders her and masks it as a suicide. Aryk, now alone for 90 years after his Sire was destroyed he looks for someone worthy of begetting.
DeadThing, A NovelEdit
The story begins with Scott Du Lac, an Iraqi Freedom soldier who is slowly recovery from his experience with war. Scott suffers from Post-Traumatic Syndrome and is pushed into a great depression when his teenage sister, Cecil, is found dead. Though ruled a homicide, Scott is confident there is foul play. Scott begins a campaign to locate his sister’s killer, interrogated street people in Skid Row . Scott attempt to assault a homeless man but is surprised to discover the homeless man is actually a vampire. But Scott is killed he is saved by Aryk, another vampire. Aryk declares that he is “well over one-hundred-fifty years and very powerful.” He promises to bring Scott to the murderer of his sister, whom he assures was a vampire, in exchange for his loyalty and joining him in eternity. Beth, Scott’s fiancée is concerned about her beaux. His mental health had diminished immensely since returning home. Beth, an archeologist intern, is called to Florida after her teacher, Sam Devlin, is found dead with his wife in their home. In actuality, while in Tasmania, Beth located an ancient urn that held the essence of the last “True Demon” left on earth. The demon, known as a Sleether, was no released on the population inSumner, Florida. Aryk catches wind of this; he lives in the neighboring ghost town of Rosewood, Florida. Aryk takes the initiative to investigate the disturbance. In an ironic twist, Beth and Scott also fly to Florida to follow up on the murders. Scott comes face to face with Aryk yet again, the vampire extremely suspicious of Scott and attempts to murder him but is stopped by the Sleether who return back to retrieve the urn. The vampire is bested by the Sleether before escaping with the urn. Aryk takes Beth and Scott hostage and rendezvous with Mika, another vampire, and Angelique, his human, 4th cousin. After going through mystical texts it is discovered that with the Urn, an army of Sleether’s can be conjured to the earthly plane. Aryk takes the role as dark champion opting to challenge the army of sleethers before they reach the town of Sumner. Mika and Aryk attempted to have a private conversation in Haitian Creole and Aryk confesses to murdering Cecil. Beth overheard the conversation and actually could understand the language. Confident that both she and Scott would be kill, Beth looks for a way to defeat the vampires and the sleethers. Beth located a binding spell that they would use to bind the sleethers to a half a mile radius. Aryk, Scott, and Mika challenge a large army of Sleethers who descend on Aryk’s large Florida mansion in the swamps of Florida. Aryk eventually defeats the army of sleethers but not before being tremendously wounded. While in a weakened state, Beth uses a Haitian Voodoo to bind Aryk to his coffin. Beth and Scott bury Aryk and leave together, hoping to never see Aryk or anymore vampires again.
Infinite CarnageEdit
Infinite Carnage the follow up to #DeadThings, A Novel set for an October 1, 2013 release. Not much is known about the book but what is known is Aryk will make a return but he comes back “wrong” and “scarier than ever.”
