Commander of the U-505 after Captain Löwe was transferred to another ship.
Under his command the U-505 got heavily damaged by an Allied flight attack. Zschech is reported to have commanded abandon ship but his crew refused and shipped back to it's base in Lorient.
The repairs took 6 months and in a second mission the U-505 had to return to the harbour because of sabotage of dockyard workers.
In October 1943 the ship went back on mission where the boat suffer depth charge attacks. During the attacks Zschech took his own life.…more
