Abdullah Öcalan is the founder of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). He has lead an armed uprising from 1984 until his abduction and imprisonement in 1999.

Ever since, he has shaped Kurdish politics through his numerous books. Being very popular among Kurds, he is regarded as a key figure for a peaceful solution of the Kurdish Question.
