John Williamson
John Williamson (d.1780) was the first Principal Gardener of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. He oversaw the transfer of plants from Trinity College and Holyrood to the new garden on Leith Walk and occupied the cottage at the garden entrance.
Williamson also worked part-time as a customs officer and on 23rd September 1780 he was murdered while trying to apprehend smugglers on Princes Street.
