Kenyon Wright
Kenyon Edward Wright CBE (1932 - 2017) was a priest of the Scottish Episcopal Church and a political campaigner. Wright chaired the Scottish Constitutional Convention (1989 - 1999), which laid the groundwork for the creation of the devolved Scottish Parliament in 1999.
The son of a textile worker, Wright was educated at Paisley Grammar School and Glasgow and Cambridge universities. For fifteen years he worked as a Methodist missionary in India, where he founded the Ecumenical Social and Industrial Institute in Bengal.
Returning to the UK in 1970, he became a Canon of Coventry Cathedral, responsible for the global ministry of Reconciliation. On returning to Scotland and the Scottish Episcopal Church, he became Secretary of the Scottish Churches Council, where he worked closely with the Scottish TUC, the Scottish Council for Development and Industry and civil society.
