Hedwig Dupré
aliases
Hedi, The Prussian Woman
Hedwig Dupré was a German woman living in Rome. She was married to an Italian academic. During the Second World War she served as secretary to the German naval attache and worked with German military intelligence, the Abwehr. After the war she assisted Nazi fugitives escaping through the Ratline.
Otto von Wächter was introduced to Dupré by Hartmann Lauterbacher shortly after his arrival in Rome in April 1949 and stayed overnight at her family home at 25 Giulio Cesare, which was used as a forwarding address for letters from his wife Charlotte. Hedi Dupré helped Wächter get a job as a film extra and visited him at the Santo Spirito Hospital in Rome shortly before his death in September.
