I know that sounds like really dumb advice and it's what everyone says, but it's really what a lot of us writers need to do. A lot of us who want to write get so hung up on the "but what if" and "how" that we don't ever actually get to the writing. Nothing else can happen without the writing happening first. So if you want to write, write. You can worry about editing and proofreading and anything else later. But none of that can happen until there are words on the page.

In the words of Jodi Picoult: “You can always edit a bad page. You can't edit a blank page.”(less)
