At the end, while Alice was in church praying the rosary, she hears footsteps and someone says "it's time." Was that someone calling her to the meeting or are we to interpret that as being God calling her to heaven?
Lisa I thought it was her husband, Daniel, calling her to heaven. If an angry,mean woman like her can get to heaven. LOL

Not a question, but currently listening to this book and FYI we do NOT have grizzly bears in Maine. One can go to what used to be called, "dumps" and see black bears scavenging for food. Did anyone else catch this?
Lisa Right; all of the grizzlies were killed off in the northeast. Only have survived in the West.

I found it curious that the author spent so little time on Alice's daughter Clare. Did anyone else find that a questionable choice? And why the author would choose to do that?

The chapters are based on the points of view of Alice (the matriarch), her daughter Kathleen, Kathleen’s daughter (Alice’s granddaughter) Maggie and a daughter in law Ann Marie. So if you focus on the chapter names, that helps.

There are a lot of family members bounced around and the chapters feel a little long at times, but overall well worth hanging in there.

It comes together well at the end. I think I’ve read three of the author’s books (I read her most recent ones first) and enjoy her writing so much, I plan on reading the backlist.
