I got this book and 2 more of the NUMA series. Would it spoil the story if I read Fire Ice first to make sure I like the series before buying the missing books (especially 1 + 2) or would I miss some of the plot? In short, can it be read as a stand-alone?

Danny Late response, but no. They make reference to previous books sometimes but they are generally self contained.
