Is it the first book or the 3rd? I’ve heard that there are 2 books before this one, but all the reviews don’t mention anything about it being a 3rd or any part of a series.

Lauren Ari Marmell has stated in the FAQ on his site that this is, indeed, a completely stand-alone novel.
