In fact, things like what happen in this book happen around the country--around the world--every single day, mostly without anyone knowing the wiser. It is only because of people like Neil Abramson and coalitions of lawyers who are now fighting the courts to achieve "personhood" for specific animals: chimpanzees, elephants, whales... It has been successful in other countries and we hope, one day, the U.S. will catch up. (less)
