I imagine that those readers who start with this, probably 'grew' over over the time the series was published.

Personally I would say its angled at the early high school age bracket. I note there is a disclaimer about the treatment of Aborigines at the start of the book. As Jackie points out, its necessary as it part of the history of the era, so I imagine if you are purchasing or recommending this to a teen or pre-teen be mindful of how they can cope with discussion of Aboriginals being shot almost for sport. She doesn't outline the incident but it is discussed at various points in the book.(less)
