Why was there never a movie made from this?! Most of L.M Montgomery's have been adapted to a movie or a series! Why didn't this one ever become a movie it would have been very nice seeing the characters come to life!

There is a story of a girl who became pregnant outside of marriage, but there is absolutely nothing graphic or even suggestive about this book. (less)

I guess I'm missing something, but why does Valancy's family call her "Doss"? Her name is Valancy Jane, so where does the Doss come from?
