This is a fun great book, however I am reading the second book in the series and I find it strange that none of these characters were in the first book. Looking over the third book there is a character from the second one. Anyone else think this is strange?

This may have been covered already in an interview that I missed, but I wanted to know: are the settings in Kristan Higgins's books based on real places? I joke with my husband that we're retiring to a place just like Gideon's Cove in 30 years or so...just wanted to see if that was a possibility :) Thanks in advance
