Would you guys recommend reading the play over the book? Just a bit skeptical about this book since its been adapted by someone else.

Someone recommended Agatha Christie books for me because I love mysteries, however I like books like Diagnosis Murder/ Monk series. Are her books similar or more gory like James Patterson/Stephen King. It is hard to tell with some of the titles and reviews?
