This book has no sex scenes. The only gory death is that of Emperor Alexander III in which a bomb blew off his legs but it is described very briefly in the first few chapters. The description isn't gratuitous but his daughter-in-law Maria of Denmark describes the scene in pretty vivid detail that might be considered squeamish.

However, if your daughter is interested in the Romanovs as in Nicholas, Alexandra, OTMA, and Alexei this may not be the book for her since it is about Nicholas' mother, aunt-in-law, cousin, rather than him and his family. Instead, I would recommend the "Romanov Sisters" by Helen Rappaport which is not graphic at all, full of interesting information about Nicholas and Alexandra's four daughters, and is very readable. Another excellent choice is "Alexandra: The Last Tsarina" by Carolly Erickson which is full of information about Empress Alexandra, interesting anecdotes, and her role in the revolution.(less)
