Will this book explain the bizarre mentality against DST or extended trading hours, and why such insular and patriotic locals? I've had multiple instances of being ignored as soon as I said I'm from x (outside QLD), being asked where I live not where I'm from as though it's impossible to be from anywhere else, and the patriotism here is bizarre (QLD is the best, even though I've never lived elsewhere).

Because if it's genuinely 3 Q's the answers aren't so hard if you're willing to assume that Queenslanders are normal people not neanderthals.

DST - because if you live North of Brisbane, it's freaking hot. The point of DST is to shift your hours of activity so you spend more time in the sun. And if you don't assume that everyone has the same climate as Melbourne, you'll realize why, say, Cairns isn't sold on the idea. Oh and it's hell for farmers - you can't ask the livestock to please do everything one hour later for the next few months.

Extended trading hours - trading hours are set by the state government. Extended trading hours suit larger businesses, which are invariably run out of Sydney or Melbourne. Smaller businesses, who use their license to operate long hours as a means to compete with Big W et al, don't want them changed and they have greater sway with Qld parliament because they actually live here.

Parochialism - because the rest of the country assumes that we're morons who worry about DST damaging the curtains rather than, say, rational human beings who don't want to spend an extra hour in 40 degree heat thank you very much. After about the 10th time someone calls you racist because you're from QLD, the natural reaction is to say "no we're awesome - YOU suck".(less)
