Florence, did you end up reading it? Seeing the movie?
I saw the movie first, loved it, wondered if there was more in the book, so I read it, but there wasn't. The timeline was shifted to produce the most sizzle at the end, but all those things did happen.
Yesterday, I had a chance to listen to the audiobook. Well, that's so much better than the book, it's amazing. I can see where folks from the UK would love the book, because they can see and hear it in locus. I, being a New Englander, can't. I've come to realize that audiobooks are like the best movie ever, because you can make the pictures yourself from the voices you hear. Much like old time radio shows, which I listen to weekly for an hour or 10. They're free on the archive.org site. But I digress.
This particular recording was worthy of a blue ribbon. (So much easier to display or store than trophies, don't you think?) It had a full cast, and a narrator, and the 'author' stopping by to comment. Not in book or movie. Totally charming. Absolutely keeping in the spirit of the book, though. I highly recommend checking out the downloadable audiobook section at your library. That's where I found mine. And it was free! I love my library. It allows me to live in a tiny house with no bookshelves to dust, and to frustrate me with their print so small I can't read them anymore. I never dreamt that I'd consider dumping my house of books. I gave them to the library! Now, my complete library of music, photos, videos, and books sits right on my lap, and adjusts to a size and color that I can read for the catalogue directory. How lovely, as long as the battery and hard drive hold up. Back up everything. Storage is cheap, loss is difficult.
Well, that should be enough. bye bye(less)

I was right, and it was the right artistic and most humorous choice.

I don't remember the goat thing, but would bet on the same conclusion. Gibbons is competent.(less)

Some readers undoubtedly found them funny. And the more so if they thought the predictions unlikely.

Others may have found they helped the ambience. The novel is not so much a satire of country life as of contemporary novels about country life.(less)
