The book tends to be wordy, and lots of words are spelled differently than what they normally would be said. As someone whose first language is English, I find lots of unfamiliar words in this book.

Ultimately, I would rate this maybe young adult in terms of violence and themes of death and loss. It is also very, very beautiful world-building! I came across it after a friend recommended it - she had picked up the trilogy when she was 14, if that helps.(less)
