I'm trying to figure out if I would like Ken Follett. I prefer literature, and I don't know if his works would be considered popular (like Dan Brown), literary (like Mailer), or something in-between. The best source for an answer would come from somebody who prefers literature and has read Follett, ideally this novel. Help?

I've only read Eye of the Needle. I'd say it is a well-told thriller. Enjoyable, but not demanding to read. Comparable to, say, Dan Brown, Lee Child, Harlan Corben.(less)

Can someone remind me --why, when the Needle had discovered the secret--why couldn't he just find a way to radio the information back to Germany? I suspect it was because German spy networks did not have radio support from the Fatherland. Is that correct? British (and French Underground) operatives had those transmitters/receivers disguised as suitcases; but German agents did not benefit from such infrastructure, yes?

Is the Eye of the Needle more of a romance novel with a dash of thriller sprinkled in? I didn't find out until I started to read the book that a movie had been adapted from this book. When I watched the trailer I was disappointed that it looked like more of a romance. Instead, I'm more of a thriller novel with a dash of romance sprinkled in kind of guy.

I know who "The Needle" refers to; what does "Eye of..." refer to? I know the eye of a needle is very small and difficult to thread...
