I just listened to an hour-long question and answer with the author, so came here to check out the novel. Reading the description, I'm surprised that not a single person asked about what appears to me to be an obvious correlation: Aren't Mukunda and Bakul an Indian version of Heathcliff and Kathy? Since I haven't read the novel, I'm not sure if the similarities are as striking there as they are in the summary above.

The story starts before either are born and the other characters' stories are a lot more fleshed out. Wuthering Heights is really just about Heathcliff and Cathy but the same can't be said about an Atlas of Impossible Longing. Bakul and Makunda's longings in the book are not the only ones that are impossible.
