Given that this book focuses on the astronauts, does anyone have recs for a comprehensive book on the program? Basically my favorite non-fic book of all time is Richard Rhodes The Making of the Atomic Bomb, and I would love a book that has similar details both about the technical aspects of putting a man on the moon, and the people involved. Does that exist? I assume it really doesn't.

It mainly covers the 8 years between Kennedy's challenge to reach the Moon and Apollo 11's mission. There are stories that you won't find anywhere else, and I uncovered some events that have not been written about previously. It was humorous, as a man who orbited the moon Collins does not seem too impressed by modern celebrity worship. Particularly those who are famous just for being famous. (less)
