I think this work is well plotted and also has a very sharp exposition even to create a different Judas (even more close to Borges's Judas). It is a reading you enjoy even more if you are aware of phylosophical concepts and existencialism works such as Kierkegaard's.(less)

He remainds me about Borges three versions of Judas, and in some way try to present several answers for dubts and conspirationals inquiries.
We could ask if Kazantzakis read the Gospel of Judas or even Borges work; but what is a fact, is that this work invites us to think.

In this case, you can follow the story and compare it with the gospel, but I think the most valuable perspective is in the philosophical dimension. From structural pespective I am very fond of the way Kazantzakis use to think about different existences through dreams and thinking. In this case could easy but you must be aware of that to enjoy it extensively.
