This book looks interesting to me and I'm fan of Cook's Black Company. But i want to ask though, do you get a good sense of what these creatures are or look like? I was reading the excerpt and had just assumed that Marika was a human until I read some of the reviews. It's just a turn-off for me if I don't get a good idea of what things look like in the books I read.

It gives you good details along the way but it never really stops to give a good description of them. Later on in the series it stays the same with giving little detail right away. I have found that it builds a little later on but i love it because it is like you are in the characters shoes and your understanding grows with hers.(less)
