As soon as you start talking like that, you loose them. In this case, that both limits the audience and prevents some people from getting the benefit of reading this book.

There are two relevant points that are not answered by the book. We are on the bottom of the scale and micheal's aliens are on the top. Is there a point on the scale were people naturally give up meat? If so, why worry about it early? Second, I don't recall them talking about what went into the food he eats while he is with them. It is possible (even if unlikely) that he didn't realize that they don't use meat. If they didn't have a big talk about it, I am sure he had so much else to think about that he wouldn't have considered it.(less)
