This book exists because Card couldn't edit Shadow Puppets down to a reasonable length. Less "interesting world events speculation," more "tedious wishful thinking." By the way, did you know that Bean and Achilles were at battle school together? And that battle school children share a special bond?

My opinion is he isn't as successful at that as he would like to be. But he does include enough information in each book so that we get enough background on the characters as needed.(less)
