I recognised Marvel from 'Snap', which is a stand-alone novel, his 'origin story', or at least an early case after he relocates in disgrace from London. I assume that chronologically Snap comes before Darkside, so no resurrection required :)(less)

As with all such series, the answer is to read in order, if you can, if only in recognition of the author's schema. There are subtle links and continuities between Badlands and Darkside, but they don't follow each other as a part 1/part 2. I can see how Steven Lamb's character has developed in the intervening 4 years but don't remember Jonas in Badlands? I understand that the 3rd book ties everything together!(less)
