It is written that Josh opened a random page of the Codex and came to know that after the Fall of Danu Talis, Sophie and the others saved the remaining humans and elders. Also, after many adventures, Sophie found out a way to send the immortals back to San Fransisco in the twenty-first century. If it hadn't been done, then in another thread of time the humans would have ceased to exist. It's just my guess though for I am a bit confused myself.(less)
