Bill Not sure what two planets and shape shifting aliens has to do with Vietnam, but to me the clearest parallel is America, or more specifically the Louis…moreNot sure what two planets and shape shifting aliens has to do with Vietnam, but to me the clearest parallel is America, or more specifically the Louisiana Territory --colonized by the French, and then re-colonized by the British, except these British call themselves "Americans", except the native Americans are still here, etc. And that's really what the book is about: not any particular location or event, but the ways in which different cultures build upon and break down and intermingle with each other.(less)
