If the first edition doesn't sell or garner attention, there's no point in publishing another.

And it isn't just a product of the time. Look at how many current-year Netflix (or equivalent) series are ended after the first season, even despite being popular and critically acclaimed within niche audiences. This type of question falls into the category that can quite appropriately be responded to with: "Who's John Galt?".(less)

How long is this short story, more or less? In reading time or rough page count. There seems to be a big disparity between the editions (9 to 200+ pages).
