I'm looking for books on Yellowstone to read with my 6th and 4th grader before our upcoming visit to the park. Would you say this would work or would it be over their heads? I would also appreciate any suggestions of other appropriate books on Yellowstone or good geology books in general. Thanks!

Utah, and has worked…moreI think this is the best popular geology book on the parks. It is technically sound (Bob Smith is a geophysics professor at Univ. Utah, and has worked on the parks his whole career), but the text might be a bit dry for kids. The photos and illustrations are worthy even without the text. You could compensate by reading the text, and discussing pictures with the kids. They certainly can understand the geological ideas. Don't forget about the Tetons!(less)
