However, that answer is wrong about the year they arrived in Britain: chapter 22 says that the family came to England in 1946, not 1941. (The novel is consistent that the family came to England shortly after the war.) This means Vera was 9 when they arrived in the UK, and Nadia was born shortly afterwards.

Nadia is 47 at the start of the book, and Vera is around 57.(less)

I would call this a minor error, especially because he's not American, except that tractors, agriculture, ploughing, are a major theme in the book, not just the subject of his treatise. I'd call it a minor error even so except that Nikolai attributes the Depression (with its worldwide consequences) to the Dust Bowl, instead of coincident.

Is this deliberate by the author, by Nikolai? Is it an error? What is the meaning if it's deliberate?(less)
