It does cover some sensitive topics such as severe injury, death and post traumatic stress. It is not offensive in any way, but may bring up a number of questions. Kate and Jancsi were younger in the first book, the world was at peace and the book has a playful tone to it. In this one, they are in the midst of the First World War, the world is a much darker place and they are trying to cope with responsibilities beyond their years. I love them both, and have done since I first read them in the 1960s.(less)
