The book was not NEARLY as sad as "Big Dan and Lil Ann" of Red Fern. There are talking animals who overcome adversity and care for one another. The book ends happily and I hope you and your child try it!(less)

Is this book going to lead to hefty discussions if I read it with my 4 year old? Topics I’ll be too busy ugly-crying about to properly discuss? (eg why I won’t be reading “Where the Red Fern Grows” with my 4 year old)
