At the time, I was teaching courses in adulthood and aging, so I was familiar with a lot of the research that Gail Sheehy discusses. I thought she did a terrific job in translating the often dry and academic discussion of theories and research into a compelling book. My sister said that the book gave her a profound understanding of what she was experiencing in life at that time. I suspect that some of the book will seem a little dated today - our society has undergone so many changes - but I think that many of the insights that Sheehy offers will remain valid. (less)
