Found this book to represent the fact that about every seven years, we becomes keenly aware of whether our actions are backing up our true goals. A change of partners, a change in career, a major life challenge will direct our gaze to what we forgot we wanted from life. That's how the book worked for me. Anyone else have a change to read this book from the 1980's?

At the time, I was teaching courses in adulthood and aging, so I was familiar with a lot of the research that Gail Sheehy discusses. I thought she did a terrific job in translating the often dry and academic discussion of theories and research into a compelling book. My sister said that the book gave her a profound understanding of what she was experiencing in life at that time. I suspect that some of the book will seem a little dated today - our society has undergone so many changes - but I think that many of the insights that Sheehy offers will remain valid. (less)
