I've not read any of the Eve Duncan books, but am interested in the Catherine Ling series. Can this book be read for the Catherine Ling series and understood without reading the Eve Duncan series? I see mentions of previous plot in this one and am wonder if I'd be totally lost or not?

This book is mostly about Catherine, and it's where her story begins, so I don't think you'll have any trouble. All Eve Duncan books give the reader a sort of "refresher" on what her story is: She's a forensic sculptor who is searching for her daughter's killer, and she periodically talks to her daughter's ghost. Each of Eve Duncan's books in a series are also stand alone books. She is very good at having the books make total sense by themselves or a continuation in a series. If you read one series why are you not interested in the other series?
