I'm thinking this may be the book I read about 20 years ago, and have been looking for recently. I couldn't remember the title nor the author, but it was about a midwife in the post Revolutionary War period. I remember the main female character used a lot of herbs in treating her patients. Did she use valerian root a lot? (This will help me decide if this is indeed the book I'm looking for.)
