Book 1 seemed a very (surprisingly) precise copy of The Fellowship of the Ring, except all the epicness of the said Fellowship of the Ring somehow absented itself from Jordan's writing. I've been looking to get into a nice long fantasy series and I was thinking to myself: I should try this again. Dear Goodreads and fans of Robert Jordan-- if I couldn't stand book one the first time around, do things change by book 14?

Also I just finished the Great Hunt and it is a long book too but also much easier to get into. I'm getting ready to read the next book: The Dragon Reborn which I hope follows the same pattern. Readin…moreI absolutely disagree that all the female characters are repellent. In fact I would say there are very few females that fit into that category. Reading a New Spring is a good way to be introduced into the series as its an easy read and introduces you to 2 of what I would say is 7 (maybe 5 depending on viewpoint) of the main characters.
