How big a part does romance play in this book?

They keep meeting and don't…moreI think the whole book is a romance, right from the start. In a way, fairly traditionally, they meet and don't hit it off. They keep meeting and don't trust each other, then eventually (inevitably?) they realize how much they mean to each other and how well suited they are for each other despite their differing natures.

Having said all that, (which seems kind of insulting as I re-read it) I really enjoy this book and have re-read it a number of times. I really enjoy Zoe's journey, love the world building and the whole idea of the random blessings in the temple.

So reading the sample: Is she only so easy to push around by everyone because of her grief or does she stay that way? (Yeah I read the plot description but that she runs away and then goes there independently doesn't necessarily mean she can't be pushed around all the time.)

Do The Elemental Blessings books need to be read in order or are they standalone stories? I'm more interested in Royal Airs than this one but I don't want to skip it if its essential.

I did not feel like I missed out on anything and I actually finally just read this one last after reading the other three.

If you do read out of order, the second one will spoil most of the plot from the first one, though.(less)
