I'm a bit more than a third into the book and I feel completely lost. As a fan of both David Weber and Eric Flint, I feel like I'm about to give a work of theirs the first low rating. I simply cannot make heads or tales of where this story is going, who is who, why, and when. I have a feeling I should have started somewhere else in this universe. Is that a correct assumption?

This series covers some of the same story/timeline but in more detail to these particular characters/events. And from a different point of view. Hang in there, and catch up on the main series when you can. The next two books in this sub-series will make more sense if you do. Also agree that the story in Changer of Worlds called From the Highlands, covers some important Prequel material to this series. And a warning - The Saganami Island Sub-series does the same thing in another part of the timeline.(less)
