Why do the mermaids have toe rings if they are mermaids and don't have toes? Also do fake mermaids wear toe rings? Are they just humans? Are they even making an effort trying to be mermaids with exposed toes? Do they do anything? Would you call me a fake dolphin if I stood here with my appearance unchanged? Secondly, Jade is not a fake mermaid. The whole thing about toe rings is not a plot device, but a bit of humor thrown into the book, along with some missing underpants too! Personally, I think the title is about catching your attention and making you think about the irony of mermaids having toes.(less)
