How difficult would this be for a non-native English speaker? I have a pretty good grasp of Spanish but don't want to torture myself and/or completely lose the narrative.

I am studying this book along with a Colombian native. There is a lot of Colombian slang in here but that isn't even the hardest part. The author switches between first and third person when talking about the same person i.e. in the same paragraph Aguilar will be referred to as "I" but also "he" and Aguilar. (This ambiguity is completely removed from the English translation which is completely in first person). Furthermore, some of the sentences are extremely long and hard to follow. (less)
